Blossom Steps Up Part 2

Welcome back to Fairy Land 

Blossom Steps Up Part 2 takes us back to the land of the fairies, and tells us what happens when Blossom, Eliza and Marjorie set out on their adventure to pick up 3 teeth while the Tooth Fairy is away on holiday.

Kiki: Hi and welcome to Sits & Giggles. Today we have part 2 of Blossom Steps Up. In the last episode, Blossom, Eliza and Marjorie had offered to stand in for The Tooth Fairy. Now, the queen had said they could do this, but that if they didn't return with all three teeth, they shouldn't bother returning at all. So this is where the next episode begins, as they're about to head out on their adventure. So sit back, relax, and get ready to giggle. 

• Musical introduction.

The queen had left the room, and now all the other fairies were staring at Blossom, Eliza and Marjorie. Blossom quickly walked across the room to join the two twins. She whispered “thanks so much for offering to go with me” under her breath. 

“We’re so delighted we can help you” said Eliza, but Marjorie just stared at both of them with wide eyes. “Are you two crazy? What if we lose a tooth and can’t return home? I can’t believe you said I’d join, Eliza!” Marjorie said the last bit of her sentence more loudly than she intended, and blushed when a group of older fairies giggled in her direction. She turned her eyes down and stared at the floor. 

Blossom took Eliza and Marjorie by their hands and quickly led them out of the room. As they passed the queen’s guards again, she smiled but didn’t stop to chat. She needed to get the twins off the castle grounds – some distance from the drama would probably calm Marjorie down a little. Besides, it was too late to back out now, so they may as well start on their journey as soon as possible. 

Once they reached the giant Baobab tree in the meadow, Blossom stopped and let go of the twins’ hands. 

“Before we leave, is there anything you need to pick up from home, like a toothbrush or some pixie dust?” Blossom asked them. 

“no, we brushed our teeth before going to the castle, and we always carry a little spare pouch of pixie dust in a locket around our necks” said Eliza, gesturing towards a pretty heart-shaped necklace she was wearing. Blossom saw that Marjorie was wearing an identical one. 

“Well, then we may as well get going” said Blossom. She shot a warm smile at Marjorie. “And don’t worry, we’ll be back before you even miss home Marjorie.” Marjorie just shrugged and raised her wings to fly. 

The trip to California was a lot faster than Blossom had expected. After flying for 3 hours, they reached the fairyland portal, typed “San Francisco, California” into the destination computer, and then flew through the gates, watching the golden gate bridge coming into view below them. They perched for a second on a bridge pillar as they checked the map for their final destination. It seemed that the house with the teeth was only a 10 minute fly away. 

“If we keep going at this speed, we’ll be home before dinner” said Blossom happily. 

“Yes, well don’t forget that we’ll be burdened with a tooth each on the way home. So don’t expect to fly quickly once we’ve picked them up” Marjorie answered. She still seemed unhappy at her participation in this adventure. Eliza on the other hand was smiling from ear to ear – “oh don’t be so pessimistic Marjorie. Look around at how pretty this is. Relax and enjoy!” and with that, Eliza let off a little “WHOOHOO” as she took off flying and created shapes in the sky. 

“Haha, come on Eliza. Let’s keep going” said Blossom, and the 3 little fairies returned to their flight path. 10 minutes later they flew over a pretty front garden and through a window in a red-brick house. In the room they saw a bed, and on it was a pillow. 

“Well, I guess the teeth are under that pillow then” said Blossom, as she flew towards it and lifted it up. And there they were. Three beautiful milk teeth, perfectly white and shiny. 

“Oh, the queen is going to love these” exclaimed Blossom. She may even use them to build her summer castle – she won’t want anyone else using such pretty teeth for their own house. Maybe she’ll make us heroes for bringing back such great teeth!”

She leant down to run her finger over the surface of one tooth, when she heard a loud “MEOW” and felt a tuft of fur streak past her cheek. She panicked. “CAAAAT” she screamed and jumped to the side. The twins covered their eyes and screamed in panic. Blossom landed on the other side of the bed and looked back towards the pillow. The cat had sat itself down on top of the pillow and was eyeing her viciously – its green eyes flashing. 

Now there aren’t many things that fairies fear more than cats, with their long claws and sharp teeth. 

The cat lay down on its stomach now and started licking its paws – obviously satisfied that it had saved the teeth from these three little fairy thieves. 

“We are paying for the teeth cat, please let us have them” begged Eliza – still hovering in the air at a very safe distance from the scary cat. 

But the cat merely looked at her for a second, and then continued to lick his paw. The three fairies gathered together on the windowsill. It seemed they had no choice but to wait. 

It was boring to sit and stare at the cat licking itself for hours on end, but the fairies continued to wait patiently. Finally, they heard footsteps in the hallway, and a big adult human appeared. “Felix, time for dinner” the human said, and the cat immediately jumped up. He licked his lips, looked in the fairies’ direction, hesitated, but then ran off. Dinner was far more important than some stupid teeth anyway. 

As soon as they saw his tail disappear around the corner, they jumped up and flew onto the bed, quickly grabbed a tooth each and shot back to the window. 

“Well, we may as well leave” said Blossom. “Oh, but wait, we need to leave the money”. She dropped her tooth on the windowsill and flew back to the bed, deposited some coins and quickly returned. “Right, let’s go girls” she said and picked her tooth back up. Marjorie sighed loudly but said nothing. She just held the tooth against her hip and turned towards the outside. But as soon as she exited the window, she lost her grip and the tooth tumbled down onto the grass. She gave a little shriek and quickly flew down after it. A human on the street turned around when he heard the loud shout, but luckily Marjorie was able to hide behind a tall blade of grass until he looked away again. She scrambled for the tooth and flew back up to join the others. “Wow, that was close. These teeth are so heavy” she said, and looked a bit embarrassed about dropping it. “Don’t worry about it” said Blossom. “We just need to get back to the portal, and then we can take a break”. 

The flight back to the portal was very slow, and all three were breathing really heavily when they reached the golden gate bridge. “Almost there. We can do this” Eliza encouraged the others. They could see the portal coming into view behind a cloud. It was so close, they felt like they could reach out and touch it. They each took a deep breath and flapped their wings as hard as they could – and the next thing they knew, they were flying back over the beautiful flowery fields of fairyland. 

They immediately sat down and rested, little drops of sweat dripping from their faces. “Ok girls, almost done. We’re at least safe now, no one will see us and nothing will harm us. It’s just a long distance. But we have all night,” said Blossom, heaving a massive sigh of relief. 

So the three little fairies flew all through the night, taking frequent breaks to rest their tired bodies and wings. Finally, after what felt like forever, they reached the familiar baobab tree, and could see the royal castle in the distance. They lay down cradling the teeth like teddy bears and fell fast asleep among the roots of the tree. When the sun rose that morning, they smiled at each other brightly, grabbed their tooth, and took off to the castle. The queen’s two guards saw them coming and applauded, shouting “here come the three heroes. Well done little fairies, well done!” Blossom, Eliza and Marjorie smiled and waved their wings back. “It feels good to be home” shouted Blossom as they passed the guards. As they entered the queen’s rooms they could hear all the fairies shouting and clapping- with the queen smiling hugely at them. “You made it! Welcome home to my great dental heroes. Hip hip hurray!” 

And this is how Blossom. Eliza and Marjorie became three great heroes of the fairy world – and there are so many songs and stories about them, praising all their adventures and heroic actions. Maybe we’ll hear about another of their adventures another day.
